Long Gun 1 (Basic Rifle) Training Course Description
* Please read all information before scheduling your course using the link at the bottom of this page * - Course is open to: Citizens/Law Enforcement/Military -
This course, like many of our other training courses, is designed to be taught in a group setting. There are periodic breaks throughout the course, along with an allotted lunch break (approximately 30 minutes). Course size can vary between 3-20 participants. This course is expected to last approximately 7-10 hours. We do our best to make sure all questions asked by participants are answered and understood before moving onto the next block of information. This helps to reduce the chances of any participant(s) falling behind during the training.
If you are interested in a smaller group/family session (2-5 participants) or an individual one-on-one style training course, please reference our Hybrid Long Gun 1 Training Course. We also have guns, equipment, and ammunition available to use for our training courses if needed. For more information, please click here: Equipment Rental and Ammunition Purchase
The Intuitive Defense, LLC Long Gun 1 (Basic Rifle) Training Course is a one day course and is suited for a wide range of shooters regardless of experience level, but specifically designed for new shooters or those who have minimal experience with an AR-15 style rifle or those looking to improve their basic rifle shooting fundamentals.
Our theory is simple. It is important to have a strong foundation before you build a house. Firearms training is no different when it comes to that strong foundation. In this course we focus on the basic shooting fundamentals and build from there. We will discuss, demonstrate, and practice all topics shown within this course so that you, the participant can hear, see, and do the techniques for yourself. We implement a combination of dry fire (unloaded weapons, no ammunition) and live fire (loaded weapons with ammunition) within this course that way you can safely and comfortably become intimate with your AR-15 style rifle, along with the tactics and techniques shown. Once you and the other participants are ready, then we will move onto the live fire portion of the course.
One of our goals is to make each and every participant a more knowledgeable, confident, and accurate shooter. We believe that our teaching method, along with having a simplified, yet informative course of instruction will do just that.

Ammunition Considerations
You do not positively know where your shooting skill level is until you asses it, which requires you to run your gun and put rounds on target at the range. That being said, we know ammunition is expensive and in some cases, can be difficult to find. We also know how important it is to get confirmation of skill though live fire drills on the range, which is why we offer two round count variants for our firearms training courses which gives you the ammunition expenditure option that works best for you.
Full Round Count (FRC)
Low Round Count Alternative (LRCA)
Please note these options do not change the cost of the course, unless you are purchasing ammunition directly from Intuitive Defense to use in the Long Gun 1 (Basic Rifle) Training Course. More information on purchasing ammunition from us can be found in the Equipment Rental and Ammunition Purchase section below.
Wether you are brining your own ammunition or purchasing ammunition from Intuitive Defense, please specify which option you want (FRC or LRCA) at checkout or when you request a Quote for Training. It should be noted, if you are brining your own ammunition, full metal jacket (FMJ) is typically the best option as it is usually cheaper than other types. Ammunition purchased through Intuitive Defense will be full metal jacket (FMJ) as well.
For this Long Gun 1 (Basic Rifle) Training Course, if all Courses of Fire (CoF) are shot, the course ammunition loadout per participant is:
Full Round Count (FRC): 488 rounds (minimum of 264 rounds, but 488 is recommended to complete all CoF)
Low Round Count Alternative (LRCA): 292 rounds (minimum of 156 rounds, but 292 is recommended to complete all CoF)
If you want to attend this training course or any others we offer, but you do not have your own gun, equipment, and/or ammunition, that is not a problem. We have made our guns and equipment available for those who need to rent them. This gives the participant the opportunity to get hands on experience at the range with a rifle before needing to purchase one for themselves. This can save time and money along with, helping to ensure you purchase a rifle that is right for you when that time comes. Going through the training before hand will also allow you to be more confident and comfortable when you get your first rifle. It is important to remember, not all rifles are created equal so understanding the feel, grip, weight, caliber, and size will allow you to be better informed when you go to the gun store.
Need ammunition for the training course? We got you covered there too! You can do a course specific full loadout or purchase what you need in 100 round increments (partial loadout). The second option works well for those who already have some ammunition, but not enough to complete a training course. The ammunition we offer is full metal jack (FMJ), which is perfect for range use.
Lastly, we also offer the "John Wick Experience". This is a unique opportunity to shoot several different types of rifles and/or Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) at the end of the training course. Experience is everything, especially when determining what type of rifle might be right for you. The John Wick Experience benefits new shooters, people who do not own a rifle yet, or those looking at getting another rifle.
